Vol. 345 No. 2

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Supply to North County Dublin.

39.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he will ensure that a connection to the natural gas pipeline to the North will be provided for the glasshouse crop industry of North County Dublin; and when the supply will be available in Rush, County Dublin.

Following on from the understanding reached earlier this month with the British Government regarding the supply of Kinsale Head gas to Northern Ireland, I have instructed Bord Gáis Éireann to commence a planning programme encompassing the design and routing of the proposed pipeline. In this context I intend that the pipeline design will provide for possible offtakes to markets located in the vicinity of the selected route. Before an allocation of natural gas can be made to any area or industry, including those mentioned by the Deputy, it must be demonstrated that it is economically and technically feasible to lay on a supply of gas to such centres.
