Vol. 345 No. 5

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

253.

asked the Minister for Finance (a) the number of staff in the office of the Revenue Commissioners, or attached to it, or in its service, on secondment or otherwise, mainly engaged in the administration and collection of the residential property tax; (b) the approximate total annualised cost to the State of their salaries, allowances and perquisites; and (c) his estimate of the annual overhead costs involved in their employment, accommodation, heating, travel, etc.

The number of staff formally assigned to the administration and collection of the residential property tax is 48. The annualised cost in terms of salaries, etc. of this number of staff is approximately £418,000 and the overhead cost is £109,000. In practice, however, less than half of this number are currently employed on a full-time basis on this tax and the rest are engaged on other duties.
