Vol. 345 No. 6

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

353.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism the average car insurance cost for a 25-year-old driver with full licence in 1960, 1970 and 1980; and how this compares with the increase in the retail price index for the same period.

The average third party motor insurance premium rate for a 25 year old driver with a full licence and qualifying for a full No Claims Bonus was £172.00 in 1980.

My Department does not have corresponding date to hand for 1960 or 1970.

I am not, therefore, in a position to make the comparison requested by the Deputy.
