asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Meath, whose business has been seriously affected by lack of service.

Service will be provided for the person named as soon as it is possible to do so but it is unlikely that the necessary cabling can be completed before the first half of next year.

I very much regret the delay. However, by the end of 1984 the vast bulk of applications will be met on demand.

248.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in transferring a telephone service for a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who was informed in August 1981 that his case would be expedited before the end of 1983.

It is regretted that it has not been possible to meet this application so far because of the volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the 01 area.

The objective of the Department's current telephone development programme is to provide a fully satisfactory telephone service nationally in terms of both quality and availability by the end of 1984 and it is expected that service will be provided for the person named during the first half of next year.

It was expected that the necessary engineering works to enable this application to be met would be completed earlier. Unfortunately this was not possible because of a need to divert staff to other urgent work.
