Vol. 346 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork RTC Courses.

455.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware of the disquiet in Cork Regional Technical College regarding the mechanical engineering degree course, which has not yet been awarded official recognition; if she is aware that there are students now embarked upon their fourth year of studies in this course who do not know what qualification lies ahead of them; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The question of validation of courses and the qualifications to be awarded by the National Council for Education Awards is a matter for the council and the Minister for Education does not have any function in that regard. I am aware that in relation to the course referred to in the question from the Deputy discussions are taking place between the interests concerned with a view to resolving certain difficulties which have arisen.
