Vol. 346 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sligo New Bridge.

307.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the new bridge over the Garavogue river in Sligo town in view of the very serious traffic congestion there.

Sligo Corporation have made a formal application for a bridge order for the construction of a new four-lane bridge over the Garavogue River. In considering the application for a bridge order, I am obliged by law to consider the adequacy of the proposed approach roads. I informed the corporation last February that consideration of their application was being deferred until they had selected a possible line for the southern approach road in the long term and are in a position to present evidence, at a public local inquiry, regarding the route and the arrangements for acquiring properties affected by the route. The corporation have not yet furnished the required information.
