Vol. 346 No. 3

Written Answers. - Louth County Council Employees.

319.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will, having regard to the serious financial position in which Louth County Council finds itself, make additional money available to it in 1984 to ensure the continuance of full employment for its employees during the coming year.

Decisions on the allocation of funds to local authorities for 1984 must await finalisation of the Public Service Estimates for that year. Local authority finances and the level of Exchequer support feasible, cannot but be affected by the current economic climate. My concern to do everything possible in this situation to help the local authorities to maintain their services and employment is reflected in the decisions taken in the current year in regard to the level of the rate support grants and the provision enabling increased revenue to be raised from local sources.
