Vol. 346 No. 4

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

351.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo as she applied for service in early 1981.

I very much regret the delay in providing telephone service for the person named. Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary engineering work can be completed before the middle of next year.

The objective of the Department's current telephone development programme is to provide a fully satisfactory telephone service nationally in terms of both quality and availability by the end of 1984.

352.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason telephone service has not yet been provided for applicants in the Blarney area of County Cork as moneys have been paid by them to his Department; when service will be provided; and when the new building in Blarney will be brought into service.

I am sorry for the delay in providing a telephone service for some applicants in Blarney area who have made advance payments. Provision of service has been held up awaiting the commissioning of a mobile telephone exchange. The mobile exchange is now in service and telephones will be provided for the people concerned within the next few weeks.

It is expected that a new digital telephone exchange at Blarney will be brought into service during the second half of next year.

353.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the long delay in processing an application for a private telephone for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

I very much regret that it has not been possible to provide a telephone service for the persons named so far because of the volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the County Galway area.

It is expected that terms will be quoted within the next few weeks. Service will be provided within about three months after the necessary agreement has been signed.

354.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has fully investigated the telephone service difficulties being experienced by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6.

Service was restored on 28 November following a disruption caused by a fault in the underground cable. A continuing intermittent fault is expected to be cleared in a day or so.

355.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will ensure that a telephone service is provided as a matter of urgency for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12.

It has not been possible in the time available to trace an application on behalf of the person named. If the Deputy can furnish additional information, e.g. when and where the application was made, further efforts will be made to trace it.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the installation of new equipment at Glasson telephone exchange, Athlone, County Westmeath, will be completed in order to provide a service to applicants.

It is expected that a new automatic telephone exchange will be brought into service at Glasson next month and that service will be provided for the waiting applicants in the area during the ensuing six months.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will give details of the programme for the installation of public telephone kiosks or payphones in County Wexford; and when they will be erected.

It is not possible to give details of kiosks planned for provision in County Wexford as the kiosk programme for 1984 has not yet been finalised. However, kiosks were provided at Annaghcross, Ballycooge and Castledockrell, County Wexford, this year.
