Vol. 346 No. 8

Written Answers. - Portmarnock (Dublin) Community School.

160.

asked the Minister for Education if she will (i) immediately sanction the 567 metre² physical education hall for Portmarnock community school; and (ii) accept the offer of the community to finance the difference in cost between a 567 metre² and 394 metre² hall; and (iii) meet a deputation from the area to discuss the detailed timing etc., of the project.

A 394m² physical education hall, the largest hall being provided for school use, has been sanctioned for Portmarnock community school. My Department will be prepared to give sympathetic consideration to any proposals which the board of management may wish to make for extending this hall into a larger size by means of local funding at the stage when the project is ready to proceed to tender.

The Minister of State recently met a deputation from the board of management and explained the Department's position in the matter. In the circumstances, I see little merit in having a further meeting at this stage.
