Vol. 346 No. 9

Written Answers. - Western Health Board Nursing Personnel.

470.

asked the Minister for Health if hospital staff working as acting ward sister/deputy ward sister and acting charge nurse/deputy nurse in the Western Health Board will be promoted with full increments and superannuation.

The appointment of an officer of a health board is a function of the chief executive officer. Recruitment and promotion procedures are currently the subject of discussions between the unions representing psychiatric nurses, the Local Government Staff Negotiations Board representing the chief executive officers of health boards, and the Department of Health. These discussions were initiated arising out of an equality officer's recommendation issued on 9 May 1983 following an industrial dispute at St. Mary's Hospital, Castlebar.
