Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - Milk Prices.

203.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism the reason consumers in Dublin have to pay more for pasteurised milk than consumers in the rest of the country.

Increases in the retail prices of milk are determined on the advice of the National Prices Commission. I am advised that the main reasons for the difference relate to the higher costs associated with Dublin milk distribution and the level of consumer subsidy, paid by the Department of Agriculture, which is approximately 4p per pint in Dublin and 4½ per pint elsewhere.
