Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Level Crossing.

296.

asked the Minister for Transport the reason CIE have not provided a barrier and lights at a level crossing (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The Barrymore level crossing referred to by the Deputy is an unmanned iron-gated crossing on the Athlone-Roscommon line.

CIE intend to automate this crossing by substituting lights and bells for the gates and it is envisaged that Roscommon County Council will bear 50 per cent of the cost. I am informed that the council are investigating the means of financing this and will not be in a position to make any commitment to CIE until this aspect has been clarified.

The automation of Barrymore level crossing will require the making of an order by the Minister for Transport under the Transport Acts.
