Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - VAT Refund.

318.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that the Wexford community alarm committee have installed an alarm system supporting 17 people in Wexford which is connected to the central unit in Wexford County Hospital, the cost of which was borne by five voluntary organisations, that the capital cost of the central unit was £3,995 with 25 per cent VAT of £998 and that each unit cost £500 with 25 per cent VAT of £120 a total VAT charge of £3,122.75; and if the Government will remove VAT charges from such projects, in view of the tremendous work being carried on by such voluntary organisations.

There is provision for the refund of VAT on qualifying goods purchased for the exclusive use of disabled persons suffering a specified degree of disablement. The provision is administered by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners. Application forms for such refunds have been furnished to the bodies concerned in Wexford.
