A Cheann Comhairle, I beg leave to announce, for the information of the Dáil.

(1) that, on 15 December 1983 I accepted the resignations of Deputy John Donnellan from office as Minister of State at the Department of Transport and at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs and Deputy Fergus O'Brien from office as Minister of State at the Department of Health and at the Department of Social Welfare;

(2) that the Government, on 15 December 1983 appointed the following Deputies to be Ministers of State as follows:

Edward Collins, Minister of State at the Department of Industry and Energy, to be Minister of State at the Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism with special responsibility for Commercial Affairs,

John Donnellan to be Minister of State at the Department of Health and at the Department of Social Welfare with special responsibility for Public Health and Social Welfare Information,

George Birmingham, Minister of State at the Department of Labour, to be Minister of State also at the Department of Education with special responsibility for Co-ordination of Education and Training,

Fergus O'Brien to be Minister of State at the Department of the Environment with special responsibility for Urban Affairs, Housing and Local Government Reform, and

Seamus Pattison to be Minister of State at the Department of Social Welfare with special responsibility for Social Welfare Administration; and

(3) that the Government, on 15 December 1983 made Orders

(a) transferring the functions of the Minister for Industry and Energy in relation to industry to the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism and transferring the departmental administration in regard to those matters from the Department of Industry and Energy to the Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism with effect from today; and

(b) altering, with effect from 17 December 1983 the name of the Department of Industry and Energy and the title of the Minister for Industry and Energy to the Department of Energy and the Minister for Energy, respectively, and altering the name of the Department of Trade, Commerce and Tourism and the title of the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism to the Department of Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism, and the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism, respectively.

It is difficult to follow all this juggling. Could we have it all set down in black and white?

It will appear on the record.

Does it make any difference?
