Vol. 347 No. 3

Written Answers. - Galway Airfield Facilities.

246.

asked the Minister for Communications if he is aware that a number of Galway's leading industries are to lose their European market facility in Galway because of the inadequacy of the existing airfield and that they are now prepared to contribute £300,000 for the development of the airfield if he allocates the finances required for its development and if he will make a statement of the matter.

247.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will make finance available in 1984 on a £1 to £1 basis with Galway business and industrial interests for the purchase of Carnmore airfield and the commencement of its development.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 246 and 247 together.

In the light of recent representations about the need to develop Carnmore Airport in the interests of industrial and commercial development in the Galway region, I am examining the position further and a statement will be made at the appropriate time.
