Vol. 347 No. 3

Written Answers. - Interest Rates.

256.

asked the Minister for Finance when he expects interest rates to fall.

In the medium-term, Irish interest rates are determined by the trend of international interest rates and by domestic economic conditions. In the short-term, domestic liquidity and international interest rate movements are the most significant factors. The uncertainty associated with international interest rates, particularly US interest rates, makes it impossible to say how Irish interest rates will behave in the immediate future.
