(a) It is not possible to indicate precisely the net receipts to the Exchequer from the application of the VAT at point of entry system. However, the amount involved is estimated to be of the order of £190 million as at the end of 1983.
(b) It is not possible to separate the impact of the VAT at point of entry system from the other factors affecting the balance of payments in 1982 and 1983.
