Vol. 347 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Donegal Schools.

277.

Mr. McGlinchey

asked the Minister for Education the position regarding the proposed extension to Derrybeg national school, County Donegal.

My Department on 25 October 1983 authorised the Commissioners of Public Works to place a contract for the proposed extension to Derrybeg national school, County Donegal. It is understood from the commissioners that their arrangements in this matter are likely to be concluded at an early date.

278.

Mr. Coughlan

andMr. P. Gallagher asked the Minister for Education if she will fund the balance of the cost of the extra 184 square metres to the physical education facility over and above the £16,500 which the parents association agreed to provide for the new vocational school at Ballyshannon, County Donegal.

The physical education facility already sanctioned by my Department as part of the proposed new vocational school at Ballyshannon is the largest that can be provided from funds at the disposal of my Department for a school of the size in question. There would be no objection, in principle, to the County Donegal Vocational Education Committee expanding this facility through local funding, but my Department are not in a position to allocate any additional money for this purpose.
