asked the Minister for Education if her Department will pay nine-tenths of the cost of the extension to a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary as originally agreed by them in July 1978 when amalgamation was agreed on the condition that the school management authorities would pay one-tenth of the cost; if her Department will revert back to the original agreement to pay nine-tenths rather than the seven-eighths which they now propose; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

With regard generally to grant offers by my Department for the enlargement of national schools, the level of the local contribution is a matter for negotiation with the appropriate school authorities. In the case referred to by the Deputy an application by the school authorities for a review of the grant level is under consideration and my Department will communicate to them as soon as possible the outcome of that review.
