Vol. 348 No. 8

Written Answers. - Housing Legal Fees.

390.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has any proposals to assist people that have to pay both their own solicitor and the lending agency's solicitor when buying or building a house; and if legislation will be introduced to deal with this matter.

I have no proposals at present on the lines suggested in the question. However, I am pursuing with building societies the implementation of a recommendation in a recent report of An Foras Forbartha that solicitors' panels should be broadened so that the same solicitor could be used by both the lending agency and the house purchaser.
