Vol. 348 No. 10

Written Answers - County Louth Hospital Treatment.

352.

asked the Minister for Health the reason a person was transferred from one hospital to another hospital (details supplied) in County Louth; if he has the right to return to the former hospital as he is now receiving no treatment in his present hospital; if he is aware that this person was campaigning for better conditions in the hospital, which was fully justified and established by the visiting committee of the North Eastern Health Board; if he will direct the North Eastern Health Board to allow this person to return if he so wishes; and if he will outline the result of the Department's investigations on the matter.

I am advised that the reason the person concerned was transferred to St. Brigid's Hospital, Ardee, was that he was considered to be in need of psychiatric care, and because of the patient's psychiatric condition his continued stay in St. Brigid's is considered to be the most appropriate placement for him. I have not, however, fully completed my inquiries in this case and I will communicate further with the Deputy.
