Written Answers. - Ministerial Visits Abroad.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of visits abroad by himself and Ministers of State at his Department during March 1984. The purpose of each visit; and the total estimated cost of all such visits.

The following is the information requested:

(a) At the invitation of President Reagan, the Taoiseach is at present on an official visit to the United States (from 9 to 16 March) in the course of which he will have discussions with the President, Vice-President and senior Administration officials. He will address a Joint Session of the United States Congress, meet the Secretary General of the United Nations and meet American and Irish businessmen under the auspices of the US — Ireland Council. The Taoiseach will also meet leaders and members of the Irish American Community.

The Taoiseach will attend (from 18 to 20 March) a meeting of the European Council in Brussels.

(b) The Government Chief Whip, Mr. Seán Barrett, TD, will travel on an official visit to the United States (from 15 to 20 March). He will represent the Government on the Reviewing Stand for the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York and he will attend Irish American functions in New York and Columbus, Ohio. He will also meet representatives of the American business community.

(c) The Minister of State for Arts and Culture, Mr. Ted Nealon, TD, will be in Copenhagen (from 22 to 24 March) representing the Government at the Official Opening of the Treasures of Ireland Exhibition in the Louisiana Museum, Copenhagen.

(d) The Minister of State for Women's Affairs and Family Law Reform, Mrs. Nuala Fennell, TD, will be in Bonn (22 and 23 March) attending the European Conference on the Sharing of Family and Occupational Responsibilities being organised by the Federal German Ministry of Youth, Family Affairs and Health in co-operation with the Commission of the European Communities.

(e) Travel and accommodation costs relating to Minister of State Fennell's attendance in Bonn will be borne by the German authorities. The arrangements in relation to other official travel have not yet been finalised and, in the circumstances, it is not possible to give a total estimated cost at this stage.
