Vol. 348 No. 12

Written Answers. - Louth Electricity Supply Application.

382.

asked the Minister for Energy the reason a person (details supplied) in County Louth was refused a supply of electricity under the EEC Council regulation number 1820/80.

Regulation No. (EEC) 1820/80, which governs the western package electrification scheme, is very strict with regard to eligibility. Article 4 of the regulation provides that only applicants who are dependent principally on agriculture for their income are eligible for assistance under the scheme.

On the basis of the information provided in his application the person concerned does not fulfil the requirement of article 4. However, electricity supply can be extended to the premises by the ESB under normal terms, details of which are available at the local ESB office.
