Vol. 349 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Law Student Grants.

1.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that students in the school of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland in Blackhall Place, Dublin, are not eligible for higher education grants; and the steps she proposes to take to make legal education open to those who have the ability and desire to enter this school but who for financial reasons are prevented from doing so.

The professional and advanced courses in the Incorporated Law Society school, Blackhall Place, Dublin, are together approved as a one-year post-graduate course for the purpose of the higher education grants scheme and, accordingly, grants are made available to eligible students pursuing that post-graduate course subject to compliance with the terms of the grants scheme.

Is the Minister saying that one can get a higher education grant for use in this school? My information is that somebody has been informed this is not so.

Perhaps the Deputy has been misinformed. Higher education grants are available to eligible students who pursue professional and advanced courses in that school.
