asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of personnel that were employed by the Department of Forestry nationally in 1981, 1982 and 1983; the number of jobs in the Department of Forestry nationally that were not replaced in 1983; and the reason they were not replaced.

477.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of personnel that were employed by the Department of Forestry in County Tipperary in 1981, 1982 and 1983; the number of jobs that were lost in 1983; and the reason they were not replaced.

*The figures included above for industrial workers represent average employment each year.

Total non-replacements in 1983 — largely due to restrictions on filling of vacancies in the public sector — amounted to 82. In County Tipperary there was no change during 1983 in the level of industrial employment in forestry while non-industrial employment increased by two over the previous year.
