Vol. 349 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Relations.

3.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the present state of the discussions on his predecessor's proposals for industrial relations; the number of meetings that have been held at ministerial level with the trade union and employer bodies on the proposals; and the further action that is intended.

Separate meetings at ministerial level have been held with representatives of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Federated Union of Employers where procedures for the discussions on industrial relations reform were broadly agreed. Both groups have now indicated the items they regard as priorities. I have appointed a senior official from my Department to act as co-ordinator for the discussions and a meeting has taken place at official level with one group. Further meetings are planned and it is my wish that the discussions should be completed and firm proposals, agreed if possible with both sides, brought forward for decision this year.
