The Interpretation Committee for the Common Contract for Consultants last met on 18 March 1983. The chairman of the committee resigned in February 1984. Officials of the Department of Health had a meeting with representatives of the Irish Medical Union on 4 May at which the appointment of a new chairman was discussed. I hope to announce the name of the new chairman in the near future and I expect that a meeting of the committee will be called by him for the earliest possible date.
