Vol. 350 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hospital Appointment.

585.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a detailed statement regarding the appointment of a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to a hospital (details supplied) in Dublin 8; and if he will ensure that this is now done.

Under new procedures all consultant posts including replacement posts have to be examined by my Department in the first instance so that the financial implications can be assessed.

This part of the procedure was cleared last November. It now lies with Comhairle na nOspidéal which has the statutory function to regulate the types and numbers of consultant posts in the hospital service to approve the application. Comhairle na nOspidéal will be considering the application at its next monthly meeting which will be held on Friday next, 18 May 1984.
