Vol. 350 No. 7

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 9, Vote 46. By agreement, debate on Vote 46, if not previously concluded, shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 4 p.m. and the Minister for Social Welfare shall be called upon to conclude not later than 3.45 p.m.

Does the Minister for Foreign Affairs propose, either individually or in company with the Taoiseach, to take up the question of the ongoing trial of Father O'Brien in the Philippine Islands?

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

It is a simple question. It is a very important international situation and we want to be dignified about it.

It is a simple question, but I would appeal to Deputy Treacy to keep within the rules of order and not to raise matters which are not in order.

In view of the fact that the Minister for Foreign Affairs did not have an opportunity at Question Time to answer, when does he intend to report to the House on the Holroyd affair which has such frightening implications for the Garda?

That does not arise.

Is it the Minister's intention to pursue an investigation and report to the House?

The Deputy will have to find another way of raising the matter.

The Minister was not here at the time.

Deputy Woods knows perfectly well that this is not in order. I am surprised at him.

There is machinery for having all these things debated in the House.

Obviously it is embarrassing to the Minister and he does not want to reply.

It is not embarrassing in the slightest.
