asked the Minister for Health if, in relation to private nursing homes, he will indicate the following: (i) the name of each private nursing home subvented by the Department of Health and the amount paid to each such home over the past 5 years; (ii) the number of beds subvented in each such home and the total number of beds in each home; (iii) the criteria laid down for eligibility for subvention and if those criteria are reviewed on a regular basis by his Department; (iv) the cost to his Department of each subvented bed compared to beds in public wards in general hospitals; and (v) if he is satisfied with the level of treatment and care given to patients in subvented homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information requested by the Deputy is not collected by my Department on a routine basis. The Deputy may get the information he requires by addressing an appropriate inquiry to the chief executive officers of the health boards who are in a position to provide the information requested.
