asked the Minister for the Environment the amout allocated for local authority amenity schemes for (1) the country, and (2) County Roscommon for 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984; and the number employed each year.

It is assumed that the question relates to the Environment Works Scheme. The information requested is as follows:

Notes:

1. The 1984 allocation comprises a special allocation of £1.6 million to Dublin Corporation and a sum of £4 million to meet local authorities' commitments on special environment projects approved in 1983. There were no such projects in Roscommon.

2. The employment figure relate to the number of man-years generated on foot of each year's allocation and not the number of man-years generated in each calendar year. The 1983 figures are based on information received to date in respect of that year's allocation and are subject to review in the light of further returns from the local authorities.
