Vol. 351 No. 8

Written Answers. - Secretarial Supervisor.

477.

asked the Minister for Finance the reasons for the delay in applying the correct rate of pay to the administrator of the Parliamentary Labour Party; the reasons she has not been paid at the same rate of pay as her equals in the other two parties, Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil; when payment will be made and all arrears due paid; and the reply that has been given to trade union representations on her behalf.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the supervisor of the group of secretarial assistants working with the Labour Party under the scheme for the provision of secretarial assistance for Deputies who are not office holders.

The supervisor of the Labour Party Group is graded at approximately Civil Service executive officer level. The comparable posts in the Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil parties are graded at approximately higher executive officer level. The different grades are justified by reference to the relative numerical strengths of the groups of secretarial assistants assigned to the three parties. It is not intended to make any change in these arrangements. I am not aware of any trade union representations on her behalf.
