Vol. 351 No. 8

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

479.

asked the Minister for Finance the administrative costs of the residential property tax in its first year of operation; the number of houses or taxpayers to which it applied; the total market value of such houses; and the revenue that was generated.

The first year of operation of the residential property tax has not yet concluded. The number of houses (or taxpayers) to which the tax applied, and their market values, have not yet been determined. To date, £1,289,745 has been paid by 4,605 taxpayers.

It is not possible to isolate the cost of collecting residential property tax from the overall cost of the administration of the inland revenue duties as a whole. For the year 1982, the latest year for which statistics are available, the cost of administering inland revenue duties is estimated at £51.2 million which is 1.8 per cent of the net receipt of those duties in that year.
