I would draw the attention of the Deputy to the statement at paragraph 6.20 of the Programme for Action in Education 1984-1987 that the question as to whether it is now appropriate to bring forward legislation regarding the status of Irish universities will be discussed with the relevant authorities. Pending the outcome of such discussions I am not in a position to make a more detailed statement in relation to the matter raised in the question from the Deputy.
