Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Elections.

368.

asked the Minister for the Environment if any consideration is being given to the possibility of holding on a pilot basis the forthcoming local elections on a Sunday.

The question of Sunday polling was considered in relation to the recent Assembly elections. In the event, it was decided that the poll should be taken on Thursday, 14 June. Among the considerations taken into account was that, following consultation, some of the Churches authorities expressed reservations about Sunday voting. The possibility of Sunday voting in the future is not excluded but a decision on this must, among other things, take account of these reservations.
