asked the Minister for Finance the projected average industrial employee wage for 1984.

It is not possible at this stage to say what the average industrial employee wage is going to be in 1984 because the pattern of settlements under the twenty-fourth pay round remains to be determined. The Deputy is aware of the Government's view, as expressed in the statement issued on 2 April, that, having regard particularly to employment considerations, twenty-third round agreements should be followed by a long pay pause and then an increase of not more than a few percentage points.
