Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Border Customs Complex.

113.

asked the Minister for Finance the location of the proposed customs complex on the Border in view of the proposal for a new road between Dundalk and Newry.

114.

asked the Minister for Finance if the building of the customs complex at the Border will have to await the construction of the new motorway between Dundalk and Newry.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 113 and 114 together.

As I informed the House during Private Members' Business on 21 February 1984, the approach to the question of improving the Dundalk-Newry road link will be decided in the light of a joint Irish-UK study which was completed recently.

In the meantime, examination of arrangements to establish a customs complex to fulfill the functions at present carried out at the frontier post in Carrickcarnan and the customs station in Dundalk is proceeding. These arrangements would have to be reviewed if a positive decision on a new Dundalk-Newry road link were made.
