asked the Minister for Health if he will list all adoption societies; the amount of public money they received in 1983; the number of children placed by each society in 1983; the other services provided by each society; the number and grade of staff; and the qualifications of staff relevant to adoption practice.

The information requested by the Deputy is quite detailed and is set out in the attached tabular statement for convenience. The information contained in it is the most up-to-date available in my Department in relation to adoption societies.

* These are societies operating under the aegis of the local health board. In 1983, estimated expenditure on St. Kevin's was £8,324, Limerick Society £20,000, St. Louise's £136,500, St. Mary's £13,000 and St. Nicholas's £25,000.

Qualifications of Staff: Social Workers employed by the societies are professionally qualified and/or have long experience on adoption work.
