Vol. 353 No. 1

Written Answers. - Louth Social Worker.

467.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a large part of County Louth is presently without a social worker because of the cut backs in his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that a temporary post of social worker has been vacated in County Louth but that existing social work staff have been redeployed to provide a basic service for the whole county. I also understand that the board has not yet taken a decision as to whether or not they will fill the post in the long term. While the deployment of staff is primarily a matter for the North Eastern Health Board, my Department will continue to keep the particular situation of social work services in the Louth community area under review.
