Vol. 353 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Fuel Scheme.

539.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost to the Exchequer of implementing the national fuel scheme.

The national fuel scheme is administered as part of the supplementary welfare allowances scheme which is financed jointly by the Exchequer through the Vote for Social Welfare and by the local authorities.

The total cost of the national fuel scheme in 1984 is estimated at £12m. approximately of which the amount to be paid by the Exchequer through the Vote for Social Welfare would be about £7.6m.
