Vol. 353 No. 10

Written Answers. - Medicinal Drugs.

626.

asked the Minister for Health whether there is any scheme for assisting a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5 who has been prescribed drugs by a consultant which are not on the medical card list.

Where a prescribed medicine is not included on the list of drugs available free of charge to medical card holders, application may be made to the director of community care and medical officer of health at the local community care office for assistance towards the cost of purchase of such medicines. In arriving at a decision the health board have regard to the person's financial circumstances, the cost of the medicines prescribed and the person's medical needs. There is no record of an application for assistance from the person concerned. However, details supplied regarding her case are being conveyed to the director of community care at Cromcastle Road, Coolock, with whom she should make contact.
