Vol. 354 No. 2

Written Answers. - Women's Affairs Funding.

612.

asked the Taoiseach in relation to the Minister of State at his Department with responsibility for women's affairs: (a) the amounts of money she has been allocated each year since her Ministry was established; (b) the amounts of money that her Department has given each year to the organisations/groups involved in:— (i) women's affairs and (ii) family law reform; and (c) if he will list the organisations and the amounts they received each year since her Ministry was established.

The following is the information requested by the Deputy:

(a) The allocations to the Office of the Minister of State with responsibility for women's affairs since its establishment are as follows: 1983 — £110,000; 1984 — £135,000. In each year the major part of the allocation is directed as a grant to the Council for the Status of Women — £75,840 in 1983 and £72,000 in 1984. The latter figure does not include the cost of rental and outfitting of the council's new premises at 64 Lower Mount Street which is expected to be in the order of £12,700. It is intended that this expenditure will also be met from the Minister of State's 1984 allocation.

(b) Within the total allocations, the Minister also has discretion to allocate grants to organisations involved in support and developmental activities in the area of women's affairs and, while some of these bodies might have an interest and involvement in the area of family law reform, this is not of itself a criterion for eligibility in so far as the funds available to the Minister of State are concerned.

(c) The organisations/groups which have received financial assistance and the amounts they received during the two years in question are as follows:
