Vol. 354 No. 2

Written Answers. - New Post-Primary Teaching Posts.

664.

asked the Minister for Education in regard to paragraph 521 of the national plan, Building on Reality 1985-87; the number of teachers she intends to appoint in the post-primary schools, by sector in each year of the plan in the area of career guidance and remedial education; and the specific criteria she intends to apply for the purposes of such appointments.

I propose to create 70 teaching posts over and above those required to service growth in pupil numbers in 1985 and an additional number yet to be decided in 1986 and 1987. The allocation of these posts between primary and post-primary sectors is under discussion, as is the allocation between remedial and guidance teachers in the post-primary sector and the specific criteria to be applied for the purposes of these appointments.
