andMr. O'Kennedy asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the expenditure of £20,000 on consultancy services in 1984; the number of people employed on this work; and how these people were recruited.

£20,000 is the provision for consultancy services under subhead A3 of my Department's Vote for 1984. To date there has been expenditure of £7,608.25 as follows:

(a) £7,226.25 to a firm of consultants engaged to provide an independent assessment of the financial position of Dublin port for the Dublin Docks Review Group set up by me;

(b) £72 to a research body for services provided by a member of their staff for my Department;

(c) £50 to a medical consultant for a report on an accident;

(d) £260 to a consultant for professional advice in connection with an industrial safety question.

The consultants were engaged on the basis of their relevant expertise.
