Vol. 354 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Wexford Forestry Workers.

618.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry whether his Department will be replacing men working in the forestry section in County Wexford; the number of vacancies there are at present; and when they will be filled.

At the beginning of the current employment year, i.e. 1 April 1984, there were 118 forestry workers employed in County Wexford. Further recruitment is subject to the constraints of overall Government policy to achieve a reduction in the numbers employed in the public sector. While a limited degree of recruitment is feasible it is inevitably restricted to forests with highest priority needs. In the circumstances retirements/ resignations which occur in a particular area may have to be balanced by recruitment in another area, depending on the requirements of the Forest and Wildlife Service.
