Vol. 354 No. 12

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers Petrol Duty Rebate.

129.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will extend the scheme of repayment of duty on petrol for disabled drivers to auto diesel used in diesel-powered cars.

As the Deputy is aware, there is no legal provision for allowing repayment of excise duty on auto diesel used by disabled drivers. The scheme for repayment of excise duty on petrol used by disabled drivers is operated under existing law.

I am not disposed to consider any change in the law to extend the present scheme pending the outcome of a review of all aspects of transport for disabled people which I understand that the Minister for Health intends to carry out, as indicated in the Green Paper on Services for Disabled People, Towards a Full Life.
