Vol. 355 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway Cow and Calf Subsidy Schemes.

421.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason farmers in the south Galway area are receiving different amounts under the calf subsidy scheme, and if he is aware that a number of farmers in the same parish in the Gort area are receiving amounts for the calf subsidy varying from £11 to £13.

My Department is not aware of any discrepancy in calf premium payments to farmers in the south Galway area. Some confusion may have arisen in the minds of farmers because the premium now being paid on calves born during the period 1 January 1984 to 15 June 1984 is at two rates, namely £24 on calves born up to 1 April 1984 and £9.75 on calves born after that date. The first of the three persons named by the Deputy has been paid £336.75 on 17 calves (12 at £24 and 5 at £9.75), the second £107.25 on 11 calves (all at £9.75) and the third £216.00 on 9 calves. (all at £24).

422.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when cow grants and calf grants will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named will be paid his beef cow grant under the 1984 disadvantaged areas schemes and also his calved heifer grant and calf premium when the batches which include his payments are processed. He will be paid his EC sucker cow premium when the six months period for retention of cows specified in that Scheme expires for all applicants in April 1985.
