Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Educational Leave.

406.

asked the Minister for Energy the number of persons from his Department who are currently on (a) paid educational leave and (b) unpaid educational leave; the nature of educational courses being pursued and the cost to the State in monetary terms and in services lost by such absences; and the average number of such absences and average cost to the State for the year 1984.

At present there are two officers from my Department on paid educational leave. Both are pursuing a Master of Public Administration course in UCD. The annual cost to the State is £4,389 and there are a total of 72 days absences per academic year involved. One officer from my Department is pursuing a Natural Science Degree course in Maynooth College on unpaid leave. There is no cost to the State involved in this case.

The number of absences in 1984 was 234 days and the cost involved was £9,004.
