Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tree Replacement.

443.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the plans his Department have made to ensure that there is adequate replanting of trees to replace the mature trees which are being demolished by local authorities for various reasons such as that of being a possible danger to the public.

The felling of trees which are certified by a local authority as dangerous to road traffic on account of age or condition is exempted from the felling licence procedure under the Forestry Acts. I do not consider the incidence of such felling to be such as would warrant changing the existing arrangements. I would, of course, welcome any initiative on the part of local authorities towards replacing such trees.
