Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

489.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount of disability benefit paid to a person (details supplied) between July 1984, and 22 October 1984.

The person concerned claimed disability benefit from 8 May 1984 and was paid to 15 October 1984. Payment was disallowed after that date following examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that he was capable of work.

The following payments were made to him for the period 6 July 1984 to 15 October 1984: Disability Benefit, £540.13; Pay-related Benefit, £321.61. He has not been paid disability benefit for any period subsequent to 15 October 1984 but is claiming unemployment benefit since 22 October 1984.

490.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made in relation to an application for invalidity pension by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick.

Invalidity pension is payable in place of disability benefit to insured persons who satisfy the contribution conditions and who are permanently incapable of work. The person concerned has been in receipt of disability benefit since 23 November 1982 and payment is being made at regular weekly intervals. Arrangements are being made to have him examined by a medical referee on 11 February 1985. His entitlement to invalidity pension will be reviewed in the light of the report of this examination.

491.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a deserted wife's allowance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A decision on the claim of the person concerned to a deserted wife's allowance will be given when a copy is supplied of the petition filed by her husband in connection with the divorce proceedings taken by him last year. Her solicitors have recently undertaken to do so as soon as possible. This is the document setting out the grounds on which her husband sought and obtained the divorce and is especially necessary in this case where it is not possible to interview him.

492.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the rate of unemployment benefit payable to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 13; if he is being given an allowance for his wife; and when pay-related benefit will be paid to him.

The person concerned claimed unemployment benefit on 17 January 1985 and his claim was allowed at the weekly rate of £61.40, the rate appropriate for a man with an adult dependant. His entitlement to pay-related benefit will be determined when inquiries being made at present are completed.
